EMAC 2010

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Just back from Copenhagen where last week I attended the 39th EMAC Conference. With special interest I went to follow the special interest group session where Dholakia and Durham would talk about their Facebook Experiment. Unfortunately they did not come but the rest of the presentations in this session were also very interesting. The organization of the conference was excellent as usual, the weather in Copenhagen very nice and the venue also good. Most papers were interesting and of good quality (although the track dominated by empirical studies) and no key note speech! A nice surprise was that many colleagues are interested in the Social Media as marketing tools but I did not see many conceptual contributions in this area. I decided to do something about this so the evening before our presentation I changed my story giving a short lecture in Social Media Marketing (that many people found very interesting indeed) and placing our study (which was also an empirical one about Social Networking Site segments in Holland) into the total context.
